Designed for plastic surface treatment, as well as glass, metal and silicon wafers.

Ushio is exhibiting its customized VUV Excimer solutions during LOPEC 2018. The 172nm Excimer lamp is ideal for plastic surface treatment, as well as glass, metal and silicon wafers. Through enhancing the surface energy, better adhesion of inks, coatings and lacquers can occur.

The 172nm Excimer lamp comes custom built with an available custom designed power supply. The power, length and diameter of the lamp can be modified to fit present equipment or designed specifically for new equipment.

Ushio reports that chemical bonds that cannot be broken using standard UV lamps can be dissolved using the VUV 172 nm wavelength. Ushio offers a range of lamp lengths and outputs, from 55 mm and 9W to 2200mm and 4kW.

“The wavelength is short, so you can crack the molecules,” said Andreas Schafert, technical sales manager. “It activates what is required, and cleans the rest out.”
