Toumaz Releases TZ1090 XENIF

Posted on September 15, 2010 @ 10:52 am

Toumaz announced the launch of TZ1090 (XENIF) – an advanced 32-bit processor based system-on-chip (SoC) with integrated broadcast and connectivity that provides a highly competitive, cost-effective solution for advanced cost engineered digital radios, Wi-Fi-connected photo frames and Internet connected consumer devices.

This device complements the FENIX DAB+/DAB/FM CMOS RF IC that Toumaz acquired as part of its purchase of Taiwan-based Future Waves in May 2009. The TZ1090 XENIF will be available worldwide as engineering samples at the end of October 2010, with production devices available in Q1 2011.

“In May 2009n Toumaz completed the purchase of Future Waves in Taiwan, who had previously deployed and marketed Toumaz RF technology successfully in the DAB/FM radio tuner market,” said Toumaz CEO Professor Chris Toumazou. “The XENIF IC now completes and expands our capabilities by adding Wi-Fi, baseband and application processing to our offering. This allows Toumaz’s consumer team to offer complete system solutions to its customers.”

PURE, the world’s leading supplier of DAB and connected radios, has confirmed that it will be using the XENIF device in several of its forthcoming connected audio products, due for launch within the next six to nine months.

“We believe that consumer devices that can deliver broadcast radio together with web-based media and content using Wi-Fi will open up significant new opportunities and markets,” Paul Smith, GM of PURE, said. “We see the XENIF SoC as a major step forward in delivering these capabilities in new and exciting form factors and price points.”
