Cambrios Technologies Corporation announced that it was named in the Wall Street Journal 2010 Technology Innovation Awards as runner-up in the category of Materials and Other Base Technologies.

The Wall Street Journal Technology Innovation Awards are in their 10th year and honor cutting-edge innovations in a variety of areas, such as software, medicine, wireless and network security. Nearly 600 applicants from 30 countries applied for this year's awards. An independent panel of judges chose 49 winners and runners-up, representing 8 percent of the total number of applicants.

“The judges were impressed with the Cambrios technology,” said Journal news editor John Leger, who oversees the awards. “They thought it was a novel innovation that has the potential to improve the quality of displays and touch screens.”

According to the Wall Street Journal, the judges assessed the applications on three criteria:

• Does the innovation break with conventional ideas or processes in its field?
• Does it go beyond marginal improvements on something that already exists?
• Will it have a wide impact on future technology in its field or in other fields?

“It is an honor to be named in the company of this exciting group of technologies and companies,” said Michael Knapp, Cambrios president and CEO. “It will be great to watch the business initiatives that emerge from these innovations.”
