Plastic Logic Wins Award for Innovation in Flexible Display Manufacturing

Posted on February 1, 2013 @ 12:43 pm

Plastic Logic announced that the company has been awarded the prestigious FLEXI 2013 R&D Award for the development of a scalable manufacturing process for integrating a color filter array on a flexible plastic display.

Having already developed and qualified its process for the manufacture of monochrome flexible plastic displays, Plastic Logic then went on to develop a process enabling the manufacture of full color plastic, unbreakable displays. This achievement has been made possible by a radical new color filter alignment process, which minimizes distortion and enables perfect alignment of the flexible layers.

The resulting display exceeds the color performance of standard EPD-based glass displays, due to the reduced absorption and reflections seen with the plastic color filter. These flexible plastic colour displays, showing 4096 colors at a resolution of 75 ppi, are now fully commercially available.

This innovative process is of particular significance, since it could enable unbreakable, flexible display solutions with other media such as LCD and OLED.

The FLEXI 2013 R&D Award was presented to Indro Mukerjee, CEO of Plastic Logic, by Michael Ciesinski, president and CEO of the FlexTech Alliance during the FLEX Conference industry dinner on Jan. 31, 2013 in Phoenix, AZ.

"Plastic Logic's innovative process for the manufacturing of high-quality, color flexible plastic displays is a huge breakthrough, and I am delighted that it has received specific recognition from the FlexTech Alliance,” Mukerjee stated. “The need for unbreakable and flexible electronic systems is the next frontier, and our displays are enabling companies to reach that frontier today. Plastic Logic is actively promoting its flexible plastic displays to OEMs and product manufacturers from a wide range of markets, include mobile devices, document replacement solutions, signage, healthcare, sportswear and automotive."
