ARMOR, Partners Deploy ASCA Organic Photovoltaic Film

At the Cité des Congrès conference center in Nantes.

Project H2020 MySmart Life, partly funded by the EU, is designed to encourage European towns to become smart cities oriented towards energy transition and developing innovative mobility solutions.

Like Hamburg and Helsinki, Nantes, France’s sixth-largest city, is a demonstrator city for innovative projects.

It is in this context that in early March 2020, ARMOR, in partnership with ENGIE Entreprises & Collectivités and Nantes Métropole, deployed its ASCA organic photovoltaic film at the Cité des Congrès conference center in Nantes.

“It is a perfect example of the application of ASCA organic photovoltaic technology to surfaces that are unused on existing buildings. It enables them to increase their solar potential and therefore their energy potential”, ARMOR CEO Hubert de Boisredon said.

BAPV (Building Applied Photovoltaics) involves applying ASCA photovoltaic film to the surface of aluminum sunscreens on a glazed facade at the Cité des Congrès. Thanks to its extremely low weight (450 g/m2), the film is simply applied to the sunscreens using 108 ‘ready-to-glue’ modules to cover a total area of 41 m2. The design and electrical work were carried out by ENGIE.

The final result can now power a video information terminal and smartphone recharging station. The experiment will be run for two years, during which the installation will be monitored by ENGIE to analyze the electrical output under different lighting conditions (direct light and diffuse light).
