The "Visotec Expert 300" document reading and verification device from Bundesdruckerei has now been awarded a certificate of compliance from the Federal Office for Information Security (BSI). In March, "Visotec Expert 500" was the first device world-wide to receive such certification. Both readers from Bundesdruckerei fulfil BSI's internationally recognised guidelines for reading electronic passports.
In addition to the reading devices, the ePassports produced at Bundesdruckerei also fulfil national and international standards and requirements. This means that Bundesdruckerei is the only company world-wide that can offer its customers an entire, certified ID system from a single source.
The "Visotec Expert 300" document reading and verification device was developed primarily for use by border control and police authorities. These devices are already being used successfully in Germany and Ukraine. Luxembourg, Venezuela and the United Arab Emirates are also using devices from the Visotec family.
These devices can be used to reliably detect forged or manipulated ID documents, such as ID cards, passports or visas. They are currently able to verify about 680 of the ID documents issued world-wide which have been designed according to international standards. They can also read almost all ICAO-compliant sovereign ID documents with and without a chip.
Bundesdruckerei also supplies other reading and verification devices for the international market. The latest addition to the "Visotec" family is "Visotec Mobile 100" for mobile verification of ID documents and individuals. This device was specifically developed for mobile use by the police and by border control officers, for example, on patrol or during checks at "green borders." Other areas of application include harbours, airports, construction sites or large events.
