Konarka Technologies, Inc., an innovator in development and commercialization of Konarka Power Plastic, a material that converts light to energy, today announced that Therese (Terri) Jordan, Ph.D., has joined the company as vice president of business development. A recognized leader in developing markets for new materials and technologies in the field of polymers, Terri will lead business development efforts as the company focuses on commercialization and mass production of its patent-protected thin film solar material fabricated from organic photovoltaics (OPV).
“Terri’s leadership and vast experience in global sales and marketing will be invaluable as we validate new applications in focused markets, including building and construction, fashion and accessory, marine, agriculture and various consumer applications,” commented Rick Hess, president and CEO at Konarka. “We are fortunate to have Terri lead business development efforts as we expand into new market opportunities and look to deliver Power Plastic on a large scale basis.”
Jordan has 20 years of progressive experience in B2B innovation, and most recently ten years in global marketing. Previously, she was global marketing director at Victrex Plc., a leading provider of high-performance polymer materials. She spent 15 years at General Electric Corporation in various capacities including global market director, polymer physicist, product developer, and quality leader. She holds a doctorate in polymer science from the University of Connecticut and a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from Tufts University. She is the recipient of various recognition awards, has authored 10 publications and holds four patents.
“I’m inspired by the possibilities at Konarka,” said Jordan. “The product profile is unique in its class, the people at Konarka are first rate, and the opportunities are abundant. The company is beginning to realize the results of years of intensive research and committed financial backing. We have aggressive plans to deliver our product to those in need of power anywhere, with a flexible, lightweight, organic solar film solution. And with our new world-class roll-to-roll manufacturing facility on line, we are prepared to meet the demands of a whole new era in harnessing solar energy.”
In addition to her leadership role in identifying and validating new applications, Jordan will manage research agreements and coordinate business development strategy with Total SA, one of the largest publicly-traded integrated international energy companies in the world. In December, Konarka announced bilateral R&D and commercial cooperation agreements with the company, securing $45 million in funding.
The addition of Dr. Jordan will allow Dan Williams, vice president of product development, along with his team, to further focus on product design and marketing efforts, supporting and driving company growth.
