Konarka Technologies, Inc., an innovator in development and commercialization of Konarka Power Plastic, a material that converts light to energy, announced that Alessandro Zedda, vice president of materials development at Konarka, is speaking at the Exhibitors' Technology Seminar at PV EXPO 2011 on March 3, 2011 in Tokyo, Japan.
PV EXPO is one of seven exhibitions at Japan Renewable Energy Week, the world's largest renewable energy event. Konarka will also be exhibiting at PV EXPO, , March 2-4, booth E33-27.
Zedda will be presenting an introduction to OPV technology, how it works and some applications that are unique to OPV. He leads Konarka's materials and device research as well as partnerships to develop higher performing OPV modules. Prior to Konarka, he worked for a decade in various roles at Ciba Basel, a global producer of high-value effects for a wide range of products and now part of BASF. He started his career as a scientist at the Advanced Fluorine Chemistry Research at Ausimont in Milan, Italy and holds 30 patents and publications worldwide.
A world leader in OPV technology, Konarka has achieved a record breaking 8.3% efficiency as certified by the National Energy Renewable Laboratory (NREL), the highest performance recorded by NREL for an organic photovoltaic single junction solar cell. The company's organic photovoltaic film is lightweight, flexible and versatile, offering various large and small scale applications including curtain walls, components within windows and other BIVP and BAPV categories.
