Bundesdruckerei GmbH has been awarded the "Fair Company" seal of quality by karriere.de, a joint initiative of the German newspaper Handelsblatt and the magazine Wirtschaftswoche, honoring companies that offer school and university graduates genuine career opportunities and who treat their interns and trainees with fairness.
Education instead of exploitation - this is Bundesdruckerei's slogan for its participation in the "Fair Company" initiative.
"We want to specifically dissociate ourselves from the practice of substituting full-time employees by badly-paid interns and trainees, a practice which has unfortunately become all too common nowadays. This is why we have taken the pledge to adhere to the 'Fair Company' rules of conduct,” is how human resources manager Stefanie Geiler explains Bundesdruckerei's participation.
The Berlin-based company provides around 50 internships and student trainee placements annually, offering career orientation and guidance to students still engaged in vocational training or university studies, and is also one of the largest printing industry companies which trains apprentices in the Berlin-Brandenburg region. In 2010 alone, 36 young people received training in the company's technical and commercial sectors. In addition, Bundesdruckerei also runs a trainee program and provides courses leading to a bachelor of science (B.Sc.) degree in business informatics.
