Konarka Technologies, Inc. and Dri-Design, manufacturer of the patented Dri-Design Wall Panel System, announced Konarka’s Power Plastic solar panels have been integrated into Dri-Design’s metal rainscreen panels for building façade applications.
The first commercial application of its kind, the integrated solar panels offer superior building performance, a recurring revenue stream for building owners, tax credits and renewable energy credits where applicable, along with aesthetically pleasing designs for architects.
“Incorporating Konarka’s building integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) technology with our highly-regarded rainscreen system adds innovation and value that is simply unsurpassed in the marketplace,” commented Brad Zeeff, president at Dri-Design. “This is yet another example of Dri-Design’s commitment to leading the industry in the development of affordable, innovative products.”
Thin, light weight, transparent and flexible, Konarka’s Power Plastic solar films are ideally suited for integration into various building materials, including glass, plastics, steel, composites and fabrics, offering creative architects and product designers superior, widespread latitude with several color and transparency options across a wide range of sizes enabled by Konarka’s roll-to-roll continuous manufacturing process. The patented Dri-Design Wall Panel System is an affordable dry joint, pressure-equalized rainscreen system used throughout the country to clad commercial buildings of all sizes.
“The first of its kind in the design and construction industry, this integrated solution is a great opportunity to support building owners driving to achieve net-zero goals for building energy performance without sacrificing exceptional visual design,” commented Ken McCauley, senior vice president, sales, marketing and business development at Konarka. “Easy to install, Konarka’s Power Plastic integrates seamlessly into various designs and materials for numerous applications, and this integration with Dri-Design’s metal rainscreen system is yet another example.”
A live solar wall solution will be on display at AIA 2012, the National Convention and Design Exposition, Thursday, May 17 – Saturday, May 19, 2012, in Dri-Design booth 339. The convention is hosted by the American Institute of Architects.
