As part of the EU LEO research project, six European companies, including CYNORA, are working on developing efficient and cost-effective OLED applications for the lighting industry. The project has sponsorship of a total of €4 million and is scheduled to run until the end of 2017.

At the beginning of the second quarter of 2015, the LEO research project started. It will be supported through the European Union’s Horizon 2020 support program.

The consortium includes Osram Opto Semiconductors GmbH as the OLED manufacturer, research institutions in France (CEA) and Italy (CNR), ArcelorMittal as the substrate supplier and the Spanish company Fundacion Gaiker as the sustainability expert. As a market and technology leader in the field of iridium-free emitter systems for OLEDs, CYNORA will support the LEO project by contributing innovative emitter and host materials for OLEDs.

The name LEO describes the main aims of the research project: Low-cost/energy Efficient Oleds. During the project, cross-company testing in the field of OLED layer structure, among other things, will be pushed, such as the combination of various materials and manufacturing processes such as vacuum processing or solvent-based coating processes, for example.

“We are very proud to be part of the LEO project. The collaboration with the project partners is a great opportunity to settle the key questions in the field of OLED component development and to push the industry forward in general,” said Dr. Thomas Baumann, CSO of CYNORA GmbH.
