Fyfe is a widely-recognized senior executive in the OLED industry. He served as chairman and CEO of Cambridge Display Technology Limited (CDT) from 2000 to 2010. CDT developed soluble and printable OLEDs based on a discovery at Cambridge University, Fyfe’s alma mater. He led CDT from a lab-based early stage venture to a Nasdaq flotation in 2004 and a sale to Sumitomo Chemical for $285 million in 2007.
“David is a real heavyweight in the OLED industry, and we are truly excited to be under his leadership,” Orthogonal co-founder Dr. John DeFranco said. “He brings a breadth of knowledge and skillset from over 30 years as CEO, to enable Orthogonal to move to the next level.”
DeFranco has been appointed by the board as EVP and chief technical officer. This change in roles allows DeFranco to focus his efforts on taking the technology to commercialization while supporting the needs of key customers in technology evaluation and adoption.
These organizational changes will bring additional focus to the growth and funding of the company, while simultaneously enhancing marketing of the technology to major manufacturers of displays and sensors; Orthogonal’s target customers.
