eMagin Corporation announced that the company, under contract from Collins Aerospace, has delivered the initial displays that are being installed in helmets for flight tests scheduled this year.
These custom-designed Active Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diode (AMOLED) displays are key components in the F-35 Helmet Mounted Display Systems (HMDS). eMagin commenced development of this microdisplay in 2013 with the mission of providing a helmet display that has superior contrast with no “green glow” inherent in the previous display.
“Our development efforts to support the F-35 Lightning II helmet have kicked into high gear,” said Andrew G. Sculley, CEO of eMagin. “We will continue to deliver displays throughout 2019 and beyond, while concurrently working closely with the Collins Aerospace team to further improve the display in preparation for Limited Rate Initial Production (LRIP).”
