Zebra Technologies Corporation introduced its new unique device identifier (UDI) scanning application, UDI Scan+.
As a result of recent legislation, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the European Commission, the International Medical Device Regulatory Forum (IMDRF) and the Joint Commission have defined and adopted UDI standards to help enable complete traceability of all individual medical devices used in patient care.
UDI Scan+ configures barcode scanners to identify, decode and parse UDI information to an electronic health records (EHR) application, helping ensure improved patient safety and allowing providers to better track implantable devices.
Zebra’s new UDI scanning application can capture the information contained in 1D and 2D barcodes and transmit only the data required, eliminating the need for manual entry of information which can lead to potential mistakes in patient care.
