Adding security to passports is essential, and Estonia has developed state-of-the art electronic-passports helpd by an e-passport and document issuance software solution provided by HID Global.
Offering the highest levels of security combined with convenience, the solution has been delivered by ASSA ABLOY Group company HID to Estonia’s Police and Border Guard Board (PPA).
“HID is proud to meet the rigorous quality and technical e-passport specifications required by the government of Estonia, which is renowned for providing high-caliber electronic identity documents and services to its citizens,” says Craig Sandness, SVP and head of secure issuance and citizen ID solutions at HID.
The e-passport’s polycarbonate data page incorporates optically variable inks, two laser images and a window in the shape of Estonia for the strongest protection against fraud. Additional visual components that reflect the country’s identity include visa pages that showcase six native animals found in Estonia’s natural habitats and UV and embossed features that depict the local climate.
HID’s personalization and quality assurance software modules seamlessly integrate into Estonia’s existing issuance system and enable polycarbonate data page personalization, secure chip encoding, encryption, and help ensure the durability of the e-passports.
“Estonia is taking a significant step forward with the new passport project,” says Eliisa Sau, chief expert of the PPA Identity and Status Bureau. “This includes the polycarbonate data page together with the semi-automated personalization process.”
