For the seventh time, the OE-A (Organic and Printed Electronics Association) announced the recipients of its annual demonstrator competition. Four projects were awarded during LOPEC 2017, the exhibition and conference for printed electronics in Munich. Among the recipients were a platform sensor, a thin-film fully printed pad and an integrated X-Ray sensor system.
During the LOPEC Dinner the awards were presented in the four following categories:
• Best Product/Prototype: Platform Sensor by Schreiner Group
• Best Freestyle: Thin-Film Full Printed PAD by eurecat and NovaCentrix
• Best Publicly Funded Project: Integrated X-Ray Sensor System by iFlexis Project (including OE-A member CEA Liten)
• Public Choice Award: Thin-Film Full Printed PAD by eurecat and NovaCentrix
Schreiner Group’s Sensor Platform featured printed Ag circuitry and contact pads, a printed NFC antenna, printed transparent organic tamper-proof seal and a printed organic insulation layer. The iFlexis project featured a printed x-ray sensor, printed circuitry and printed interconnects. The Thin-Film Full Printed PAD has printed capacitor sensors, printed conductive Ag paths, printed insulator layers and 3D printed housing.
“People worked very hard to produce these demonstrators,” said OE-A chairman Jeremy Burroughes, who is CTO of Cambridge Display Ltd. “We had 28 demonstrators submitted, and each year, the demonstrators get better.”
The OE-A also presented its two Start-up Forum Awards:
• Best Business Case – Ares Materials, Inc.
• Most Impactful Technology or Product – Sensorics
Also, for the first time, the OE-A presented its Fellow Award, presented to a person who has made a great contribution to the field of organic and printed electronics. The inaugural recipient is Wolfgang Mildner, with Wolfgang Mildner, LOPEC general chair and founder and CEO of MSW, who has been a longtime leader with the OE-A.
“I think it’s well deserved,” Burroughes said in presenting the award to Mildner.
“It sounds like my work is done, but it isn’t,” Mildner said. “Many people deserved this award, and I appreciate the honor.”
