    Printed Electronics Europe 2016 Highlights New Technologies

    New possibilities for printed electronics, wearables, sensors, IoT and more will be the focus of today’s presentations.

    As Printed Electronics Europe 2016 in Berlin’s Estrel Berlin Hotel and Convention Center heads into its second day, attendees are gathering plenty of insights into the possibilities that flexible and printed electronics has to offer.
     
    Yesterday, numerous end users offered their thoughts on how flexible and printed electronics are impacting their brands and industries, and today’s presentations will look to do the same.
     
    Organized by IDTechEx, Printed Electronics Europe 2016 will feature two tracks centered on Printed Electronics, as well as seven co-located conferences – 3D Printing Europe; Energy Harvesting & Storage Europe; Electric Vehicles; Graphene & 2D Materials; Internet of Things Applications Europe; Sensors Europe and Wearables Europe.
     
    Printed Electronics Europe features two tracks today. Track one covers 3D Printed Electronics, Structural Electronics and Printed and Flexible Electronics Manufacturing Innovations.
     
    3D Printed Electronics opens the first Printed Electronics Europe track. Henrik Johansson, technology development, LiteOn Mobile, begins the session. TNO scientist Rajesh Mandamparambil, BotFactory CTO Carlos Ospina and Neotech Services MTP managing director Dr. Martin Hedges round out this subject.
     
    Structural Electronics will be the focus of four talks, starting with Dr. Antti Keränen, CTO and co-founder of TactoTek. Dr. Keränen will be followed by John Voultos, business development manager, DuPont Microcircuit Materials. Dr. Susanne Goldbach, project manager at Philips, and Dr. Ashok Sridhar, senior scientist, Sabic, will also discuss Structural Electronics.
     
    Printed and Flexible Electronics Manufacturing Innovations will be the subject of eight talks. DoMicro BV managing director Marcel Grooten opens the session, followed by Pit Teunissen, printing process engineer for Holst Centre/TNO. Dr. Wouter Brok, manager research - Business Unit Printing Meyer Burger Group, and Dr. Jan Bouwstra, senior research associate, FUJIFILM Manufacturing Europe BV are next up.
     
    Dr. Kai Keller, director business development, Notion Systems GmbH, will follow, with European Commission project officer Philippe Reynaert set as the next presenter. Asahi Kasei manager Masayuki Abe and Aristotle University of Thessaloniki Greece Aristotle University of Thessaloniki’s Dr. Argiris Laskarakis, head of Organic Electronics Group, will close the first Printed Electronics Europe track.
     
    The second Printed Electronics Europe track will have two topics, beginning with four talks on TFT Technologies. The speakers for this session will be Dr. Anita Neumann of Evonik Resource Efficiency Gmb; Dr. Oriol Osso, senior technology manager, BASF New Business GmbH; Northeastern University Northeastern University director Prof. Ahmed A. Busnaina; and Dr. Alexander Mityashin, program manager at imec.
     
    Nine speakers will take on the topic of New Materials, New Possibilities. Sun Chemical global product manager John Hannafin starts the Materials session. Dr. Stijn Gillissen, CTO/R&D manager for Henkel, is next, followed by Valerie Zoppi, innovation project leader at Genes’Ink. Dr. Dave Hui, development scientist at DuPont, is next.
     
    CondAlign AS CTO Dr. Henrik Hemmen will offer his insights, followed by Peter Willaert, global marketing manager, Agfa-Materials and  Hitachi Chemical Co., Ltd. manager Hidenori Abe. Inkron Oy CEO Dr. Juha Rantala and Fraunhofer IKTS’ Dr. Marco Fritsch close out the second track of Printed Electronics Europe.
     
    The second day of Wearable Europe 2016 features four sessions: Thin and Flexible Battery Technologies, Wearable Technology Innovations, E-Textiles and Eye-Worn Electronics.
     
    Thin and Flexible Battery Technologies offers presentations by Enfucell Oy CEO Dr. Markku Ellila and UNIST Prof. Sang-Young Lee. Wearable Technology Innovations presents insights by Dr. Frederick Bossuyt, post doctoral researcher at Ghent University - IMEC and Dr. Wolfgang Schmitt, senior manager strategic marketing for Bosch Sensortec GmbH.
     
    E-Textiles will be covered by Propel LLC president Clare King, Forster Rohner AG’s Dr. Jan Zimmermann, Sensing Tex, S.L. CEO Miguel Ridao, Dreamcanyon founder and CEO Darren Fogelman, Nottingham Trent University project manager/product development Pasindu Lugoda, and Bainisha CEO Patrick Van De Vyver.
     
    Eye-Worn Electronics, the final Wearable Europe 2016 session, will be led by talks by Dr. Harry Zervos, IDTechEx’s principal analyst and business development manager; Sylvie Joly, CEA display program manager; and Valérie Riffaud-Cangelosi, Epson’s new market development manager - EMEA.
     
    Innovation in Chemical Sensors opens the Sensors Europe 2016 track, with talks by Dr. Jess Brown, sales and marketing director, Cambridge CMOS Sensors Ltd.; Prof. Yvonne Joseph of TU Bergakademie Freiberg; Aryballe Technologies CEO Tristan Rousselle and Applied Nanodetectors Ltd. managing director Dr. Victor Higgs.
     
    Sensors For Healthcare will feature four speakers, beginning with BreathDX CTO Prof. Tony Killard. Prof. Killard will be followed by Dr. Thomas Knieling, deputy department chief, Fraunhofer ISIT. Prof. Owen Guy, head of Systems Process and Engineering Centre at Swansea University, and Dr. Silvia Generelli, senior R&D engineer and project manager for CSEM AG, will conclude the session.
     
    Five talks will be featured in Large Area Sensors, the final portion of Sensors Europe 2016. These presentations will be given by Dr. Alessandro Fraleoni, Morgera research associate, Dept. of Engineering & Architecture, University of Trieste; Dr. Thomas Papakostas, CEO/president, R&D CORE Limited; Dr. Erkki Soininen, VP marketing and sales, Canatu Ltd.; Peratech CEO Jon Stark CEO; and Fraunhofer IFAM project manager Mario Kohl.
     
    Internet of Things Applications Europe 2016 will have eight sessions. Internet of Things Applications opens with talks by Dr. Kars-Michiel H. Lenssen, director/principal scientist, Philips Lighting Research, and Daniel Walldorf, manager innovation platforms, TE Connectivity. The topic of Energy Storage for Internet of Things will be handled by Dr. Aidan Quinn, group head, nanotechnology for Tyndall National Institute, and Dr. Michael Korell, project manager, Evonik Creavis GmbH.
     
    Dr. Rainer Matischek, staff engineer system, Infineon Technologies Austria AG and Intel Security CTO, EMEA Raj Samani will focus on the topic of Internet of Things Security. Governments Driving IoT Adoption will be covered by Dr. Marisa Catalan, CTO/R&D manager at i2CAT Foundation, and Hannes Seidl, deputy head of division, Deutsche Energie-Agentur GmbH (dena).
     
    Smart Lighting will have a single speaker, Richard Sims, business manager, connected devices for The Technology Partnership plc. Internet of Things Meets Printed Electronics is slated to have talks by Mark Beckwith, business development manager, Centre for Process Innovation, and Mike O’Reilly, Optomec’s director, Aerosol Jet product management.
     
    The topic of RFID will offer two combined talks, with Confidex VP Timo Inkinen and Jukka Hieta, executive director, sales and marketing, Nordic ID coordinating the first presentation and Carlo Carminati, SAIT sales and marketing director and Harting Olaf, Wilmsmeier product manager RFID combining for the second talk.
     
    Internet of Things Closing Keynotes will be presented by RFMOD founder Andrew Holland, Webvariants CEO Stephan Wirsich and IDTechEx’s Raghu Das.
     
    Graphene Europe 2016’s second day starts with a 10-talk session on New Graphene Applications, beginning with Michael Marx, senior executive director (products) at Vittoria Industries Ltd. Marx will be followed by ICFO research engineer Stijn Goossens and Inigo Charola, Graphenea’s business development director.
     
    Next up is Fraunhofer FEP research fellow Dr. Beatrice Beyer; Dr. Martin Lohe, Dresden University of Technology’s industry project coordinator; James Baker, business director, National Graphene Institute; and Dr. Weiping Wu, George Daniels Lecturer, City University London.
     
    The final three talks on New Graphene Applications will be rpesented by Dr. Paolo Bondavalli, head of Nanomaterials Group, THALES Research and Technology; PrintAgora owner and founder Michel de Ruiter; and IIT/BeDimensional technologist Dr. Francesco Bonaccorso.
     
    The Graphene Europe track then heads to the subject of printed electronics, beginning with Printed Electronics Products. This session features three talks.
    Pragmatic Printing Ltd. CEO Scott White leads off,followed by Tommi Rintala, CEO of New Cable Corporation, and Dr. Giovanni Nino, director, composites R&D at Quest Integrated (Qi2), LLC.
     
    The Graphene Europe 2016 track closes with Printed Electronics Products Photovoltaics, where attendees will hear from Exeger CEO Giovanni Fili, Saule Technologies scientific director Dr. Konrad Wojciechowski and Claudio Marinelli, Eight19 Ltd’s VP business development.
     
    3D Printing Europe 2016 begins the second day with a segment on Standards, New Businesses and The Law, starting with a talk by Reimer Spriesterbach, technical manager for Lloyd’s Register. Sharebot Deutschland CEO Amin Torabi and Delektre Ltd CEO Antti Backman are next, with Louwers IP/Technology Advocaten Ernst-Jan Louwers closing the legal session.
     
    Emerging Applications for 3D Printing is next on the agenda. Birmingham City University senior lecturer Frank Cooper opens this session, followed by Jonathan Rowley, design director at Digits2Widgets (D2W). CERADROP deputy managing director Nicolas Bernardin and Harry Kleijnen, process and application development manager at Additive Industries b.v., will complete the Emerging Applications for 3D Printing session.
     
    New Techniques for 3D Printing Metals will be covered by three presenters, starting with Ken Vartanian, Optomec’s director of marketing. TTP senior consultant Dr. Chris Hole and Fraunhofer IFAM research associate Dr. Burghardt Klöden will also offer their insights on this topic.
     
    Materialise design engineer Jannis Kranz and University of Würzburg research assistant Marco Wirth will focus on the subject of 3D Printing Design. 3D Printing Europe 2016 will conclude with two talks on New Materials for 3D Printing. These presentations will be given by Jasper van Dieten-Blom, senior marketing consultant, DSM Expert Center, and David Mason, business development manager. NGF Europe Ltd.
     
    The second day of the Electric Vehicles: Everything is Changing track has a wide range of subjects, beginning with 48V Mild Hybrid and Power Electronics. IDTechEx chairman Dr. Peter Harrop opens this segment, with Dr. Ralph Stömmer, business development manager, TT Electronics/AB Mikroelektronik GmbH, up next. Luc Van de Perre,Transphorm’s director of sales, EMEA, and Fraunhofer IPA group manager Dr. Bernhard Budaker close out this portion.
     
    Energy Storage Future is up next. Dr. Michael Harenbrock business development manager at Mann + Hummel GMBH, will lead off. Poznan University of Technology’s Patryk Przygocki is next, followed by Dr. Ervin Tal-Gutelmacher, senior scientist at Elbit Systems Land & C4I.
     
    Two presenters will analyze Charging Future V2X: Franco Gonzalez, senior technology analyst at IDTechEx and Herve Mathiasin, CEO at Smart Green Batteries EV chargers & sol. Green City Ferries CEO Hans Thornell will focus on the subject of Marine; Fraunhofer IPM’s Dr. Jana Heuer will offer insights into the theme of Energy Harvesting for Electric Vehicles.
     
    There will be two presentations on Electric Vehicles: Everything is Changing’s final session, Market Forecasts and End Game. Aurelia Hibbert, program director of CUER, University of Cambridge, and Dr. Sten de Wit senior advisor, SolaRoad/TNO close out the track.
     
    Day 2 of Energy Harvesting and Storage Europe 2016 will begin with a session on Design Considerations for Energy Harvesting. Dr. Juan-Mario Gruber, lecturer/head of research Group Autarkic Systems for ZHAW, will open this segment. Dr. Gruber will be followed by Lorandt Foelkel, business development manager, Wuerth Elektronik eiSos GmbH & Co. KG. Dr. Paul D Mitcheson, a lecturer at Imperial College London, and Yannick Verbelen, an assistant professor at Vrije Universiteit, will close the session on Design Considerations.
     
    Energy Harvesting and Storage Europe 2016 moves next to Wireless Switches, with talks by ZF Friedrichshafen AG product manager Thomas Boethe and Armin Anders, co-founder and VP of product marketing for EnOcean GmbH discussing this topic.
     
    The topic of Stretchable & 3D Printed Energy Harvesting is up next, with talks by Prof. Kwang Seok Yun, associate professor at Sogang University and Tyndall National Institute Prof. Saibal Roy discussing the topic.
     
    Integrating Energy Harvesting In Smart Buildings, the next session, will be covered by Dr. Helen Sanders, VP technical business development, SAGE Electrochromics, Inc.; Belectric CEO Dr. Ralph Paetzold and Nicholas Cullen, partner and head of research and development, Hoare Lea & Partners.
     
    ULVAC GM Dr. Koukou Suu will focus on the topic of Manufacturing Energy Harvesting. LivaNova’s Bertrand Boutaud will speak on Implantable Energy Harvesting. The final session on Energy Harvesting and Storage Europe 2016 will be on Energy Storage: Micro & Thinfilm Batteries, with talks by three speakers: Ilika Technologies Ltd. CEO Graeme Purdy; Dr. Robert Hahn, head of Micro Energy Systems Group, Fraunhofer IZM; and Dr. Mihails Kusnezoff of Fraunhofer IKTS.
