Opening Session of LOPEC 2019 to Highlight Latest Technologies

Topics include biomedical applications, lighting, 3D structural electronics, energy, smart and hybrid systems and manufacturing.

The main session of LOPEC 2019, organized by the OE-A, opens today at Messe Munich, with a host of presentations as well as a busy exhibit hall. New technologies will be the highlight, as speakers will focus on a range of topics, from biomedical applications, lighting, 3D structural electronics, energy, smart and hybrid systems and manufacturing. Meanwhile, the scientific sessions will look at materials, circuit design, devices and processes.
 
The March 20 Plenary Session will include:
• LOPEC general chair Wolfgang Mildner, founder and CEO of MSW.
• Dr. Erhard Barho, head of functional surface solutions, Benecke-Hornschuch Surface Group – “Smart Surfaces Beyond Rubber: The Fusion of Printed Electronics and Mature Technologies Create New Value Propositions to Customers in Various Product Segments.”
• Sebastien Chaumiole, electronics leader, IBM – “Printed Electronics and AI - Foundation for an Enhanced Connected Life Experience.”
• Dr. Kerry Adams, market segment manager, DuPont Photovoltaic and Advanced Materials – “Stretching the Boundaries of Printed Electronics.”
 
The Technical Conference features six sessions on two concurrent tracks.
 
Dr. Adams will lead the Biomedical Applications session of the Technical Conference. The speakers there will be Jaye Tyler, president and CEO, Nissha Si-Cal Technologies, Inc.; Dr. Giorgio Mutinati of AIT Austrian Institute of Technology; and Fraunhofer FEP scientist Stephanie Schreiber.
 
Nina Riegel, OSRAM OLED GmbH, will lead the Lighting session, with talks by Ulrich Frei, head of application engineering automotive exterior, OSRAM Opto Semiconductors GmbH, Fraunhofer FEP scientist Hesse Jan, and VTT senior research scientist Dr. Martin Kögler.
 
Jörg Franke, professor, Friedrich-Alexander Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg, will head up the 3D Structural Electronics session. This will include TactoTek Group CTO Dr. Antti Keränen, IPC R&D program manager Dr. Lionel Tenchine and Dr. Fabian Gyger, head of R&D – functional inks, ELANTAS Europe GmbH.
 
The session on Energy will feature talks by OxfordPV CEO Frank Averdung; Dr. Miguel Carrasco, program manager, Cambridge Display Technology Ltd.; Dr. Marja Vilkman, senior scientist, VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland; and PragmatIC CTO Dr. Richard Price.
 
Price will then lead The Smart and Hybrid Systems segment, featuring six speakers: Gerald Niklas, business development manager, Mühlbauer GmbH & Co. KG; VTT Ltd. senior scientist Dr. Kimmo Keränen; Dr. Susanne Oertel, scientist, Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Systems and Device Technology, IISB; Douglas Hackler, president and CEO, American Semiconductor, Inc.; Dr. António Marques, researcher, CeNTI - Centre of Nanotechnology and Smart Materials; Kyle Homan, Aerosol Jet applications engineer, Optomec, Inc.
 
The Upscaling Production and Manufacturing Processes session will be chaired by Prof. Karlheinz Bock of Technische Universitat Dresden. This session will also feature six speakers: Prof. Jeng JengYwan, distinguished professor, National Taiwan University of Science and Technology; Dr. Sorin Stan, director business development, VDL Enabling Technologies Group; Dr. Andréanne Bolduc, R&D chemist, PCAS Canada; Dr. Robin Krüger, department manager group development innovation, LPKF Laser & Electronics; Mario Kohl, project manager, Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Technology and Advanced Materials IFAM; and Dr. Eleftheria Maria Pechlivani, E.M Pechlivani Organic Electronic Technologies.
 
The Scientific Conference also features six sessions.
 
Nano-C, Inc. VP R&D Dr. Henning Richter will chair the Materials I. Materials for Optoelectronics session, which will include talks by Prof. Xugang Guo of Southern University of Science and Technology; Dr. Roman Tkachov, researcher, Fraunhofer-Institut für Werkstoff- und Strahltechnik; Dr. Mihai Irimia-Vladu, senior scientist, Joanneum Research; Prof. Yvonne Joseph, director, TU Bergakademie Freiberg; and Dr. Nelson Pereira, PhD student, University of Minho.
 
Prof. Dr. Donald Lupo, professor, Tampere University of Technology, will chair the session on Circuit Design, Simulations and Systems. Speakers include AUO senior engineer Yi Chen Lai; Dr. Junfeng Sun, Department of Printed Electronics Engineering, Sunchon National University; Dr. Eloi Ramon, researcher and Printed Microelectronics Project manager, Institute of Microelectronics of Barcelona IMB-CNM (CSIC); Milad Mosallaei, doctoral student, Tampere University; and Dr. Junfeng Sun, Department of Printed Electronics Engineering, Sunchon National University.
 
Prof. Dr. Luisa Torsi of University of Bari led the session on Devices I. Sensors I. This session included talks by Muhammad Khatib, PhD student, Technion - Israel Institute of Technology; Prof. Senentxu Lanceros-Méndez of BCMaterials; Prof. Hyunhyub Ko of Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology; and Pedro Martins, researcher, Universidade do Minho.
 
Prof. Gyouijin Cho of Sunchon National University will lead the session on Processes I. Printed TFTs and OPVs. Presenters will include Dr. Jaakko Leppäniemi, senior scientist, VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland Ltd.; Dr. Atefeh Amin, application development engineer, InnovationLab GmbH; Enrique Pascual, research engineer, PhD candidate, ICMAB; and Dr. Diego Bagnis, R&D manager of organic electronics, csem brasil.
 
Prof. Xugang Guo of Southern University of Science and Technology will lead the session on Materials II. Conducting Materials and Structures. Presentations will be given by Dr. Li Lingying, master candidate, Osaka University; Dr. Hongye Sun, post-doc, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology; Dr. Oleksandr Glushko, project leader, Erich Schmid Institute; Kieran Walsh, PhD student, University of Exeter; Dr. Theodoros Dimopoulos, senior scientist, AIT Austrian Institute of Technology; and Yin Cheung Lau, research assistant, WCPC/Swansea University.
 
Dr. Simone Fabiano, assistant professor, Linköping University, will chair the session on Devices II. Photodetectors and Diodes.
