John Baekelmans Named New Managing Director for imec

Baekelmans held various global leadership positions at Cisco for the past 21 years.

John Baekelmans will take up the position of managing director of imec the Netherlands/Holst Centre. He will take over the role and responsibilities of Bert Gyselinckx.
 
For the last 21 years, Baekelmans held various global leadership positions at Cisco within engineering, services and the M&A departments and has authored numerous US and European patents. He recently was the CTO inside Cisco’s Internet of Things Solutions group.
 
John was also the co-founder of a Belgian residential solutions startup called fifthplay. Right after university, John designed, implemented and operated large PBX-networks at Siemens Belgium.
 
Baekelmans obtained a masters degree in computer science from the University of Antwerp, Belgium and is a former Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE). In his spare time, he is engaged in Belgium’s national fast response rescue team to assist in global disasters.
 
After 11 years at imec the Netherlands/Holst Centre, Gyselinckx has taken on a new challenge and is establishing imec’s latest R&D and design center in Florida. This new center will develop non-visible imaging systems from mm-wave to infra-red. It will also serve as the home base for imec’s IC Link services in North America.
