Solicore continues to demonstrate its commitment to driving innovation by powering the new SESAMES Best IDentification Award-nominated ID-Touch biometric identification card from Identita. SESAMES award winners will be announced on November 3, 2008
The ID-Touch is the first and only card of its kind to identify the user via bio-electric signals unique to the registered cardholder. The user places two fingers on the card’s two sensors, verifying their identity by measuring biometric data, such as heart rate and electrical impulses. The data is stored on the card itself, rather than in a third-party location, which not only enables faster deployment of the card, but also makes it the first biometric card to allow users to self-register their data. Solicore’s Flexion battery is the key to enabling the ID-Touch’s unique data storage feature.
Once the card is activated, it will not respond to anyone but the registered user, making it virtually impossible to fool. Because the ID-Touch reads comprehensive bio-electrical data, rather than relying solely on any one biological component, its functionality is not affected by changes in body temperature or heart rate.
“We were looking to present a one-of-a-kind biometric card and needed a unique battery to power our identification platform,” says Rocky Stefano, CEO and co-founder of Identita. “It needed to be thin and flexible, yet durable and sustainable enough to be used for three years. The Flexion® battery’s singular technology not only met but exceeded our needs. Our SESAMES nomination is also a testament to Solicore’s groundbreaking work, without which we would not have been able to launch the ID-Touch.”
Solicore also provides batteries to power Identita’s E INK printed one time password (OTP) card, a multi-function PIN-based and time-based secure powered card, which will also be shown at Cartes. The E INK technology provides the card with an ultra-thin, flexible display screen with quality and clarity comparable to a printed book page. It requires a relatively low-power battery, which, paired with the Flexion battery, increases the lifespan of the card.
“Identita is a tremendously exciting company for Solicore to partner with because they share our commitment to advancing the industry and driving innovation in security and identification,” says Solicore CEO David Corey. “Our Flexion batteries are specifically designed to enable companies to break through existing technologies and open new spaces, and their SESAMES award nomination is recognition of our ability to help do just that.”
