Toppan Printing Co., Ltd. and Chi Lin Technology Co., Ltd., a core company in Taiwan’s Chi Mei Group, have announced their intent to enter into an alliance to deliver commercial/industrial electronic paper (e-Paper) applications, including electronic price tags, retail point-of-sale displays and logistics instruction labels.
Under this agreement, scheduled to begin May 2011, Toppan Printing will sell Chi Lin manufactured e-Paper displays into Japanese industrial markets.
E-Paper displays are best known for their use in the rapidly expanding e-book reader market. However, industry forecasts predict even greater growth for the technology in industrial applications such as equipment and appliance displays, retail electronic shelf labels and other applications in industries such as manufacturing, logistics and healthcare. This rising demand for compact e-Paper displays is due to their thin and durable form factor, low power consumption and environmental sustainability.
Each company brings particular strengths and capabilities to the alliance. Toppan Printing possesses a strong customer base in a wide range of industries throughout Japan and has built a strong track record in a variety of businesses including commercial printing, IC tags and cards and digital signage.
Chi Lin has demonstrated the capability to manufacture a broad line-up of low-power e-Paper displays and to provide module solutions for companies to utilize these new displays.
The collaboration between Toppan Printing and Chi Lin will make it possible for customers to realize the benefits of using e-Paper displays for their commercial/industrial applications and will provide the support needed to incorporate them into their products quickly and effectively.
