ams OSRAM participated in the 2021 AspenCore Double Summits (2021 Global CEO Summit and the 2021 Global Distribution & Supply Chain Leader Summit) in Shenzhen, which was hosted by ASPENCORE, a well-known leading electronics industry-focused media group.
During the summit, the 2021 World Electronics Achievement Awards were announced, and ams OSRAM won two awards, the Electronic Company of the Year and the Sensor of the Year.
The World Electronics Achievement Awards set out to elect and commend enterprises and leaders who have made great contributions to driving innovation in the global electronics industry.
TSL2585, the Sensor of the Year, is a new mini ambient light sensor from ams OSRAM with proprietary UV-A light detection. It features a highly sensitive ALS sensing, UVA sensing, 4kHz fast sampling flicker detection and silicon based interference filter technology. Thanks to its extremely compact dimensions, the sensor is ideally suited for space-constrained wearable and other mobile applications.
The short integration time and high sensitivity of TSL2585 enables reliable detection of ambient light even when placed under low transmissivity materials and OLED displays. By providing the illuminance information and ambient light flicker information to the phone camera, it supports fast auto exposure of smartphone camera and removal of banding effects caused by flicker from environmental lighting.
TSL2585 is the third product from ams OSRAM to win this award. The multi-channel spectral sensor AS7341 won the Sensor of the Year award in 2019, and the ALS sensor TCS3408 the Sensor of the Year in 2020.
ams OSRAM also won the prestigious Electronic Company of the Year award. Pierre Laboisse, EVP, global sales and marketing at ams OSRAM, gave an overview of the new optical solutions combining lighting and sensing technologies. He also referenced the strategic importance of the China market for the company.
“We combine the light emitting competence of OSRAM with the competences ams holds in the areas of sensing, ICs and software to create a global champion in optical solutions – focusing on sensing, illumination and visualization,” Laboisse said. “Here we are building a leading portfolio to combine emitters with optics, detectors, ICs and algorithms, creating complete optical solutions for the customer from one hand.”
