One of the goals of the leading printed electronics conferences is to show attendees what can be accomplished using the technology. For LOPEC, the annual Demo Line is the result of a collaboration between leading companies and research institutes, and this year’s project is no exception.

Coordinated by the Fraunhofer Institute for Electronic Nano Systems, with the  demonstrator and process created by the Institute of Printing Science and Technology at Technische Universität Darmstadt, this year’s Demo Line will feature electroluminescent illuminated text being printed onto packaging.

The Demo Line will be run during LOPEC on April 6-7 at Messe Munich. Through screenprinting, the functional layers will be applied to paper and film, and inkjet printing can be used to customize the packaging. According to LOPEC officials, the electroluminescent devices will be integrated into active packaging in the shape of a cube. When voltage is applied, one side will show illuminated logos and text.

“LOPEC really shows the potential of printed electronics, and the Demo Line provides proof of the practical applicability of printing methods,” said Thomas Kolbusch, LOPEC exhibition chair and VP of Coatema Coating Machinery GmbH. “LOPEC is the only exhibition in the industry that offers its visitors live production of this kind.”

The companies and institutes that will be part of the 2016 Demo Line are:
    • adphos Digital Printing
    • ALTANA
    • Bosch Rexroth
    • Coatema Coating Machinery
    • Exakt Advanced Technologies
    • Felix Schoeller
    • Fraunhofer Institute for Electronic Nano Systems
