Small ‘Glass Tag NFC’ Enlarges Range for Embedded Tagging

It is resistant to most chemicals and made from biocompatible glass.

Smartrac Technology Group launched its new Glass Tag NFC . Because of its robust design and extremely small form factor, the NFC product offers the option of embedded tagging to a wide range of additional materials, products and, ultimately, industry segments. Hence, Glass Tag NFC extends the fields of applications such as product authentication , brand protection, customer engagement, and customer loyalty.

With a diameter of just 2.12mm, 12mm long and weighing 100mg, the tag is among the smallest NFC transponders available in the entire marketplace. Resistant to most chemicals and made from biocompatible glass, this extremely robust tag can be embedded into a range of new materials such as concrete, plastic or wood, often by insertion into predrilled holes before being sealed in place with synthetic resin or silicone.

Glass Tag NFC will be manufactured under superior quality standards at Smartrac Specialty division’s facility in Wehnrath, Germany. The product is available with either an NXP SLIX IC, which has an 896- bit user memory or NXP’s NTAG216 IC, which offers 888 bytes of user memory. Data from the chip inside the tag can be read by either a dedicated reader or via any NFC-enabled smartphone.

“Our new, small Glass Tag NFC now offers customers the opportunity to embed a robust NFC tag inside many different types of material and products. Broadening the uses of the glass tag beyond its proven field of animal id and tracking, this innovative product offers many more applications for customers wishing to protect their brand, conduct customer marketing, authenticate their products or even turn them into consumer experience platforms,” said Hansjörn Reifschläger, head of sales at Smartrac Specialty division.

Like all applicable transponders manufactured by Smartrac, Glass Tag NFC also benefits from Smart Cosmos, the company’s IoT solutions platform which records and manages a complete set of unique transponder data (e.g. UID no., order no., batch no. or yield) at production level in a controlled and secure way.

The new NFC tags will be available in high volumes from April 2019. Smartrac presents Glass Tag NFC at LogiMAT 2019: Hall 4, booth B09, Feb. 19-21, 2019, Neue Messe, Stuttgart, Germany.
